No (known) major personal hygiene issues … Check

Yet still, no flat for Simon. Maybe I need to show more leg.

I’ve never spent this long looking for a flat before, and I’ve also never had to find a flat with complete strangers with whom I have no previous connection. So far it’s been a rather demoralising experience, filled with awkward conversations and feigned enthusiasm (there are some really weird people out there looking for flatmates).

It feels all too similar to looking for a job. The main difference is that when you get turned down by a flat, you know that it’s for entirely personal reasons, rather than a mismatch of their requirements and your qualifications, which at least serves as a conciliatory excuse when job-seeking.
